About POCT

POCT is an abbreviation for Point-of-Care Testing referring to rapid testing that is conducted generally in clinic examination rooms, hospital wards and medical offices for ambulatory patient wards in the vicinity of the patient, and which is also known as on-site testing or bed-side diagnosis. It is different from laboratory and testing center testing which is rather intensive, requires large amounts of sample, and takes a long time. POCT makes testing in front of the patient (on-site) possible; it is extremely fast, which allows the physician to make quick decisions regarding treatment, and also allows monitoring of the course of treatment and prognosis. It has been attracting attention as a new trend in medical economics for its efficiency, cost reduction and its significant contribution to improving the quality of medical care.

There are several general requirements for POCT, including minimal or unnecessary pretreatment of the sample, testing conducted with small amount of specimen, therefore no burden on the patient, easy measurement that can be done even by unskilled staff, stable quality, and unnecessary maintenance for the equipment.

Applying the CAs-CHIP technology to POCT

At present our company is conducting research and development of POCT devices based on high-speed PCR techniques using the CAs-CHIP.

The CAs-CHIP platform we are developing will complete screening of pathogenic bacteria and DNA testing within 15 to 20 minutes.
